Celtic will be looking to make it four wins out of four this season on Wednesday night when they take on the Kazakh champions in the opening leg of their play-off round tie, the last qualifying round before the league phase.

Kairat, based in Kazakhstan’s largest city of Almaty, close to the border with Kyrgyzstan, are approaching the end of their domestic season which started back in February, with the side sat level on points with league leaders Astana with just six matches to play.
Rafael Urazbakhtin’s side have already progressed through three round of Champions League qualifying to reach this stage of the competition, just one hurdle away from reaching the league phase of the tournament for the very first time in their history.
Kairat knocked out Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana 3-1 on aggregate in the first qualifying round, then turned over a 2-0 first leg deficit by win 3-0 at home in the second leg against Finnish side KuPS, before beating Slovan Bratislava on penalties in Slovakia last week to book their ticket to Glasgow for their first ever appearance at the Champions League play-off round.
Saturday afternoon’s defeat at home to Yelimay ended an eight match unbeaten run in the league for the side nicknamed ‘Team of the Nation’ and also ended a five match winning streak ahead of their bid to become just the second Kazakh team to reach the Champions League league phase after Astana a decade ago.
Wednesday’s meeting at Parkhead will be the first time the two sides have ever met before.
